The animation begins present day, travels several million years into the past, and then returns to where it started.

After starting the animation, the Baja Peninsula is represented in burnt orange, the continental shelf to the west of the peninsula is in green, and the upper section of the yellow region represents the Algodones Dunes and Chocolate Mountains to the west of the Salton Sea.

Note; Blue represents water at the beginning and the end of the animation, but does not represent water during the animation.
