The Colorado River is a body of water that flows through the southwest of the United States of America. It begins in the Southern Rocky Mountains in Colorado, USA and flows in a southwesterly direction to the Gulf of California / Sea of Cortez.
In its natural state, approximately 20 cubic kilometers of water flowed into the Gulf / Sea every year. But since the 1930s the river has been controlled by a series of dams, including the famous Hoover (Boulder) Dam, which reduce the flow of water to the Gulf / Sea to almost nothing. It’s waters created the Grand Canyon and today supply irrigation water to many farmlands along its route, including the Imperial Valley, California, USA.
