An arroyo is creek or river bed that is often dry, except during rainy seasons when flooding occurs. The Alamo Arroyo travels westward through Mexico in a winding fashion, eventually turning north and crossing into the United States where it is referred to as the Alamo River. It was typically dry for most of the year with water flowing in it only during high floods of the Colorado River.
